As Hollywood honors actors and actresses with handprints in cement along its illustrious Walk of Fame, so too does Hong Kong honor its cinematic stars and history on its own Avenue of Stars. Located near the East Tsim Sha Tsui metro station, Hong Kong’s Avenue of Stars is ideally situated along the banks of Victoria Harbor. Even if, like me, you do not know many of the people immortalized with cement handprints here, the stroll along the waterfront is still delightful (even more spectacular I hear at night). However, even with limited knowledge of Asian cinema most people will be able to recognize a few of the more international celebrities like Jackie Chan and Jet Li. Perhaps the most famous and photographed attraction at the HK Avenue of Stars is a bronze statue of local legend Bruce Lee. Indeed it was this statue and a recent viewing of “Dragon: The Bruce Lee Story” that inspired our visit. Along the walk there are several cafes to grab a drink or a quick snack, and there is even a two-story Starbucks with a wonderful open-air, roof top seating area if you desire to take a break from your walk and simply enjoy the view. Like most attractions in China expect crowds at the Avenue of Stars, however the cost (FREE) and scenery should offset that particular inconvenience.
