All may not be going quite to plan in the attempts by Dick Advocaat and SAFC’s sporting director Lee Congerton to tie up the remaining transfer business.
Will we get Adnam Januzaj on loan from Man Utd or was the facial gesture in the tweet above aimed at us and our hopes?
Are we really likely to see Fabio Borini back on another loan? And would we especially want a man who made abundantly clear his reluctance to return?
The Sunderland Echo assures us we are not really interested, despite persistent speculation elsewhere, in the Blackburn striker Jordan Rhodes.
Time will tell and there’s only until August turns to September for more deals – perhaps including the exit door for Liam Bridcutt and Danny Graham – to be done.
Jake: ‘soar up the table with a win, Lads’
What is not in doubt, albeit this early in the season, is the need for a morale-restoring, point-building win at home to Norwich City tomorrow.
In my ESPN FC preview , I mentioned Advocaat’s acknowldgement that Sunderland have “no chance” of staying up if they continue to play as they did at Leicester. And I concluded that anything less than a win against Norwich would be thoroughly disheartening.
Extract from Dick’s comments:
[Leicester] was a game I did not expect. You can lose, but not the way we lost. I have said to the players that they have to realise that we are team that has to fight. That was the strength of our team last season, in the last nine games.
Everyone was involved and we showed passion and aggression, but none of that was there at Leicester.

Jake says: ‘you cannot even be sure of a mug this season but have a go anyway’
If we manage to get off to a good start free of the hesitancy and nerves of so many home games last season, a pleasant afternoon may be in store for Wearside. And if the players do their jobs, we could all be smiling again tomorrow evening.
That’s called keeping the faith, but why not? Ha’way the Lads.
