SUPER SIRENS - TWO FOR TWO IS MUCH BETTER THAN BOO ...

Super Sirens - Batgirls Pretty woman, walking down the street. Pretty woman, the kind I like to meet. Pretty woman... I don't believe you, you're not the truth. No one could look as good as youuuuuuuuu. But then again, we may not have met Super Sirens yet, eh? Hillary, can I have a word with you please?

1) What are your own origins, Hillary? Plus when did you first meet up with Rachel?   As a lover of all things geek, especially comic books, getting into cosplay was a no-brainer. Even as a kid I loved to pretend I actually was the characters I read about in comics and saw on TV. Later on, when I went to my first comic con and saw adults cosplaying their favorite characters, I knew I had to try it too!

My first cosplay was Zatanna, and I pieced it together and enjoyed wearing it so much it wasn't long before I started working on more costumes. Since then I have learned how to sew and make armor, and I'm constantly trying to expand my skill set to make bigger and better costumes! I met Rae about a year ago through a local cosplay group. We immediately hit it off and agreed we needed to start cosplaying together.

Super Sirens - Supergirls2) How did ‘Super Sirens’ come about?   We created our Super Sirens page a few months ago. We were both wanting to start a cosplay page to show off our work and realized we would have more fun and be more successful if we combined forces, so Super Sirens was born!

3) What are the most persistent comments you’ve received from your followers?   So far we have received overwhelmingly positive comments from our followers. Every time we post pictures of our cosplay they tell us they love our work and they want to see more!

4) How did your friends, family, and work-colleagues first react to the news that you like to cosplay?   Most of my friends, family, and colleagues think it is really cool that I cosplay. Even though they may not completely understand why I like to spend my free time dressing up like superheroes, they still appreciate the skill, creativity, and time that goes into it.

5) How do you decide what Cosplay costume to wear for a convention? And who makes them?    Both Rae and I are incredibly geeky, so we usually just choose characters that we love from comic books, video games, etc. We both have a huge list of characters we want to cosplay, so we never run out of things to work on. We make the majority of our cosplays ourselves, and occasionally we may have friends help us out on props or certain pieces of our costumes.

6) What have you learnt about yourself whilst Cosplaying? And were their any unforeseen obstacles you had to content with?   I've always been more shy and introverted yet going to conventions in cosplay has definitely brought out my more confident and outgoing side! As far as obstacles go, we've come across a few people who say negative things about Super Sirens or don't want us to succeed for whatever reason, but we have learned to ignore them and focus on the positive comments.

7) What was the best / worst convention you ever attended?   The best convention I attended was last year's Planet Comic Con. It was the first time I cosplayed with a group of people and I really enjoyed it. We did a lot of fun group shoots and I was even invited to be on a Cosplay 101 panel.

Thankfully, I haven't had any negative convention experiences yet, but I have only recently began branching out and going to larger cons.

Super Sirens - Black Widow and Scarlet Witch8) What would be your dream Cosplay gig and outfit?   My cosplay dream is for Super Sirens to be invited to a big convention as cosplay guests. A costume I've always dreamed of making is Sara Pezzini from Witchblade, as she is my favorite comic character, and I think the costume would be both challenging and fun to make.

9) Has their ever been an outfit you just did not like wearing? And if so, why?    I can't think of a specific costume I didn't like wearing but I am always very critical of my work. I can only wear my costumes a few times before I am bored with them and want to move on to making something that is hopefully superior. My goal is to someday make a costume I like so much I want to wear it everyday!

10) Do you have a credo you live by?   My credo is do what you love and have fun! There will always be obstacles and haters but you can't let anything prevent you from doing what you enjoy.
