The words Kung Fu became famous in America with the famous TV show simply called ‘Kung Fu’ during the late 60’s and early 70’s and like most kids watching those shows we all pretended to be Kung Fu fighting and even Batman and Robin were using Karate to fight the bad guys. But after practicing both for a combined 30+ years they really are different.
Bruce Lee brought Kung Fu out of the shadows and secrecy to the bright lights of television and I first saw Karate as taught by leaders of the American Taekwondo Association (ATA) in Cranston R.I. ….but lets first talk about Wing Chun Kung Fu today and leave the other for another day. From the Shaolin Temple and the young student called grasshopper by the Shaolin Monk to the young orphan girl who was given the style, its very simple, effective and allows a person to fight in the space of a telephone booth, but this style ends the fight quickly.
No you don’t have to go to China for instruction. Now you can find real Traditional and Canton Wing Chun Kung Fu training in the USA, Canada and many other countries. You will have to pay more than a sack of rice, sorry I was back in the movies days of the Kung Fu series, but it is affordable for those that wish to learn this effective system. Just be careful that your really learning from a certified teacher or Sifu that has a real lineage and not one made up from a story book.
Several years ago in the mean streets of Baltimore Maryland a young man, normal height but very thin was attacked by three bullies.
