Nowadays, people thinking are much smarter and so different than the people who lived one hundred years or a thousand years ago. It seems that most people think that we are much more sophisticated and, dare I say, better than our ancestors. Indeed, this silly Rubes we read in history books do not know how to make a light bulb! These idiots had to walk everywhere because they are too stupid to build cars … even a double layer paper! These cavemen!
The truth is that human brains are exactly the same for a long period had. Gay-Sapiens are at least 200,000 years, and the best we can tell our brains, as it is now, it may be 36,000 years old or older. Most people find it hard to believe, but scientists have found evidence of 36,000 year old human features “modern” art, music, free trade among nations, religious rites and burial style. Regardless of the actual number of years, it is safe to say that the human brain is exactly the same for the last 7000 years. Just as we are intelligent?
The simple truth is that they are intelligent, creative resources, or more than our ancestors were 7000 years ago. We currently have only become more and more technology. The reason we have bulbs and MP3 players today and I have 7000 years not because they are smarter, it’s just because we had time to solve it.
My point in all this is that, when it comes to martial arts today effectively on defense than they were in the past probably misinformed. Yes, we have more on the psychology, physiology and physics than us 2000 years ago, but we still have the same brains, the same arms and legs, and the same violent tendencies. An attack today look the same functionality as a violent attack in 1654 and would like bc 3728. We are no better than those who came before us, and if no more because we were back.
I try as best I can, to be open about wrestleboxing (my name “Ultimate Fighting” because you disagree with the term “MMA”), but have a hard time ignoring and that’s probably screaming so loud. Wrestleboxers talk about how they are the pinnacle of the world of martial arts, just as everything that happened in the history of the fight to him. What nonsense! Most of them have little or no technical and do not know how to get out of a simple plug starter, which is yellow belt material in my dojo.
I saw a documentary a while ago about the impact of Bruce Lee in today’s society and for a reason that has me baffled wrestleboxers interview began. Then the man who owns the UFC, I think her name is Dana White, really his foot in his mouth when he was saying that the martial arts have evolved more in the last 10 years due wrestleboxing, what in the last 10,000 years. I assume that only about their activities, because I can not believe anyone would be so ill-informed to believe. Wrestleboxing is nothing new or special, all it takes is a look at a history book to see what they do the same in Greece more than 2,000 years ago, and then very, very first. Wrestleboxing is just one example of how fashion is in a cycle, in the same way my wife, dressed in jeans with leg slightly backwards.
People believe that martial arts are archaic forms of struggle that can not “work”. I agree with this idea on many levels, because a typical karate class unwilling person to survive a violent crime. Guess what.. not intended. Although there are instructors and styles out there that deal specifically with the defense, the majority of teachers to teach their art as a form of art. The problem is not what karate, for example, teaches that the way they learn. Even Funakoshi’s autobiography spoke with him and other Karate intentionally altered to less violent and more of an art form. What has changed is the tone and focus of art (damage “character development”).
