I find that all modalities of eating have their appropriate uses and also their pitfalls. The pitfalls tend to come with a disrespect for the food and for abusing it (over-eating), or becoming too idealistic and extremist in our approach. I have been a militant vegan in the past. I've also been a raw foodist, a heavy meat eater, and somewhere in between I was a vegetarian. I don't see much use for these definitions anymore. I think they served a good purpose at some point in my own development and I don't hate on any of it at all. Following rules and guidelines is a great way to make personal progress in life, but there comes a point when these guidelines become limitations that end up "restricting" us on the path of personal development. I think it can be very easy to define ourselves by what we eat/wear/think/do etc. This I think, is where the ego takes control of what was originally an innocent pursuit for personal growth. The ego dictates a more fundamentalist approach to diet or whatever it may be, and suddenly we're not advancing on our path anymore but have become stuck in a self-righteous illusion. There are so many examples of this, not least here on youtube! Each and every food/herb/thought/word/action in life has it's appropriate use or misuse. It takes true intuition to understand …
