Who would have thought that deep into August, the biggest question swirling around the Rockies would be lack of offensive production. After all, the Rockies have three slugging all-stars in Troy Tulowitzki, Carlos Gonzalez and Michael Cuddyer.


OK, it’s true the Tulowitzki and Dexter Fowler were hurt from much of July, but the offensive numbers are still startling bad:


* The Rockies have scored three or fewer runs in 10 of their last 14 games. Their batting average in July is .227, tied with the Padres for 13th in the National League. Only the Marlins — Colorado’s opponent Tuesday night — have a worse team average (.220).


* The Rockies’ 51 runs scored in July ranks 14th. Once again, only the Marlins (50), have been less productive.


* The Rockies’ OPS (on-base percentage plus slugging percentage) of .617 is the worst in the NL.


Bill Geivett, vice president of baseball operations, said he thinks the Rockies, when healthy, have a legitimate shot to win the NL West.
