To paraphrase 'LOTR', what was rumor became fact, what was fact became internet fodder. And let's get the jokes about Spock making a cameo out-of-the-way. Are we done? Cool.
Wow. Oddly enough I was getting something ready to talk about how NO ONE seemed to want this project and then THIS happens. Whew! Good thing I waited! lol!
So my reaction? Bit of everything. I'm very glad that SOMEONE has this and will drive it forward, and the fact Abrams is a good director and if memory serves a SW fan means this should fun.
Part of me is a bit bummed because I had hoped an unknown but passionate director, like Rian Johnson, would have a shot at this. I know, I know, giving something like this to a relative unknown is kinda suicidal. On the other hand, remember 'Iron Man'? Not that Favreau was 'unknown' but he certainly wasn't a big name at the time.
More then anything, though, relief is the word. Let's be honest, we have all been petrified at what could happen. Visions of a Michael Bay-esque orgy of CGI, explosions, and chaos flashed before our eyes. No, this film may not be the SAME as Eps 4-6 but it'll have the heart we're hoping for.
What am I looking forward to? Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm... at this point the big things are the obvious like a story that doesn't suck, no Jar Jar Binks, you get the idea.
Oh, VERY important thing for me, more Force stuff!!!!! Lightsabers! Sith! Force-lightening! Enough bad-ass fighting techniques that Toshiro Mifune and Bruce Lee give their approval!
However what makes this REALLY interesting is how a certain movie by WB about DC's band of superheroes is still hunting for a director... and at this point the word 'desperate' may sneak in...
